The FIFA U-20 World Cup, opens a new window has kicked off and will run until 20 June. Quite a few of the games are being played in Christchurch so you could even get along to watch a game or two.
The tournament is held every four years and there are teams from all over the world competing, including Hungary, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Honduras, Brazil and of course New Zealand.
We have heaps of books in the library about football (or soccer as it widely known), from learning how to play the game to stories about soccer.
- If you like graphic novels you could read Goal Getter and Hit It! by Michael Hardcastle.
- If you want to impress your friends with all the interesting facts you know about soccer you should definitely read 555 Football Facts to Wow Your Mates by Les Scott.
- Billy the Kid by Michael Morpurgo and Extra Time by Morris Gleitzman are two really great stories about soccer.
- Soccer isn't just for boys either! For a series about an awesome girls soccer team try the Girls F.C. series by Helena Pielichaty.
- We have some great kids ebooks about soccer too that you can borrow any time you like. Check out Football Mad, Fitter, Faster, Funnier Football, and Diary of a Soccer Star.
