Alternative uses for the Halswell Library building

The Riccarton-Wigram Community Board is inviting community proposals about possible alternative uses for the Halswell Library building.

Halswell Library will close its doors on Saturday 3 October 2015 at 1pm while preparations continue for the opening of the library at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre, scheduled to open late November 2015.

The community is being asked to suggest alternative and sustainable community or public uses for the current Halswell Library building after it closes on 3 October 2015.

The Riccarton-Wigram Community Board is inviting community proposals about possible alternative uses for the Halswell Library building, please email barbara.strang@ccc.govt.nz by 2 October 2015.

The Council is currently the building's owner. However, there is no ongoing budget to run, operate or maintain the Halswell Library building. Community proposals will need a sound and sustainable business case that is supported by a Council business unit.

If an alternative community, Council or public works use cannot be found it is likely that we will eventually sell the building on the open market.
