You can start from Day One… libraries are for babies too. Each year about 5,000 Books for Babies packs are distributed to parents and babies through hospitals, midwives and the Homebirth Association. In 2011 Books for Babies celebrated its 20th year.

Visiting your library

Connor enjoys his 'Baby's world' board book We have sessions at our libraries with songs, games and stories especially tailored for babies and those just about to start school.

When a child turns four they can come into any Christchurch City Library and pick up a Ready for Reading pack. The pack contains a purpose written book Right on Time, a jigsaw, a birthday card, and a pamphlet with tips on how parents can help their child get ready for reading.

Children’s collections include books for older and younger readers, reference books, picture books, jigsaws and more.

Our children’s DVD collection has almost 1500 items. The catalogue shows if they are based on older or younger fiction, picture books or are non-fiction.
