About Central Library Manchester

Central Library Manchester, Te Kete Wānanga o Manchester, at 36 Manchester Street is located on the corner on Manchester and Allen Streets.

This temporary library will be superceded by a new Central Library in 2018.


Central Library Manchester houses the following collections:

Family History resources include electoral rolls, microfilm newspaper files, and telephone and business directories.

Central Library Manchester also offers:

  • General fiction, nonfiction, best sellers and biographies
  • Large print and talking books
  • Graphic novels
  • Young adult titles
  • A small selection of items for children
  • 80 magazine titles
  • Newspapers – The Press, Christchurch Star, Otago Daily Times, New Zealand Herald, Dominion Post
