FIFA World Cup and FIFA U-20 World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is held every four years, with the next editions scheduled to be held in Russia in 2018 and in Qatar in 2022.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup, for male players under the age of 20, takes place every two years. New Zealand is hosting the 2015 tournament from 30 May to 20 June, and Christchurch's AMI Stadium will be the location for nine matches.

Football and soccer in New Zealand

The first New Zealand interprovincial soccer game was played in Christchurch on 16 August 1890. Canterbury beat Wellington 2-0.
