Many people have dreams of one day taking to the road for an extended campervan trip — but what are the realities of travelling on four wheels? Our libraries have resources to help you choose and maintain your campervan and to plan your holidays, such as camp site directories.
Manuals and magazines
Campervan owners are best served for technical information by The Motorcaravan Manual. This is published by Haynes, the English company well known for its authoritative workshop manuals which are based on a “strip down and rebuild” of the project vehicle and make extensive use of step-by-step photographs.
The concept of early retirees taking to the road has become popular in both New Zealand and Australia. Grey Nomads Australia offers a comprehensive resource for over-50s who are camping and travelling around Australia — much of the information will be relevant in New Zealand as well.
The New Zealand Motor Caravan Association is a good place to meet like-minded people. As well as listing national and local events the site includes a lot of practical information of interest.
