Aranui Library closing for revamp Sunday 24 April 4pm – set to reopen Tuesday 3 May 9am

Aranui Library will temporarily close for a week so maintenance work can be done and the library layout revamped to make it easier for customers to use. The closure will take place from 4pm Sunday 24 April and will reopen Tuesday 3 May at 9am.

Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says the work at Aranui Library is part of Christchurch City Council’s 10-year refurbishment programme for its libraries. Aranui Library first opened its doors to the public in September 2012.

"The most noticeable change for customers when the doors open again on Tuesday 3 May will be the new layout – we’re moving the shelving and service desk to makes things more accessible and improve the flow of the collection," Mrs Robertson says. "Aranui Library will also get updated landscaping and outdoor furniture and some fresh paint for the interior, among other things. We’ll also be doing some maintenance on the exterior shortly after, but we can keep the library open throughout. Aranui Library is a key fixture in the local area, and these improvements mean the building will be fit for purpose for the next decade."

During the closure, items cannot be returned to Aranui Library. However, they can be left at Council libraries around the city and on Banks Peninsula. The nearest alternatives are New Brighton Library and Linwood Library in Eastgate Mall.

From 26 April, any hold items requested for pick-up at Aranui Library will instead be available at New Brighton Library, unless another site is requested.
