Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre will be closed for four extra days between Christmas and New Year. Although the library has recently moved to open seven days a week due to popular demand, it will close at 6pm Monday 24 December and reopen Monday 31 December at 10am so that some minor works can take place.
"We're taking the opportunity over the Xmas period to allow contractors complete some work on the polished ground floor. The work is part of some minor defects still outstanding from when the facility was built in 2017, and is a normal part of any new build,” says Carolyn Robertson, Head of Libraries and Information. "To cause as little disruption as possible to the community, we thought it would be best to use the Christmas holiday period. All the other Christchurch City Libraries in the network are staying open between Christmas and New Year, so people can still have plenty of options for getting their holiday fix of library items and services."
It will reopen again for New Year's Eve, Monday 31 December, before closing as normal for public holidays. Normal hours resume from Thursday 3 January 2019.
