Redwood Library will open its doors at 10am on Monday 7 October following repairs and refurbishment.
Redwood opening hours are 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
The library in Main North Road closed on Monday 29 July to allow for a site upgrade and was originally due to reopen on Monday, 26 August.
Christchurch City Council Acting Head of Libraries and Information Erica Rankin says the first phase of the refurbishment revealed the building needed more work than planned.
“When carpet was removed during the refurbishment, it revealed cracks in the concrete slab around the steel columns,” Ms Rankin says. “This meant we had to delay the re-opening while we carried out investigations to determine the extent of the damage,” she says. “Our engineers have now assessed the damage and carried out repairs. The concrete slab has been re-poured and new carpet laid. The team are now focusing on the remainder of the upgrade works, which includes replacing the Heating and Ventilation system, carpet, and repairing the roof."
“We look forward to welcoming the local community back to the new-look Redwood Library,” Ms Rankin says.
A mobile library vehicle will continue visit the library car park until the library re-opens:
- Wednesday 25 September 10am to 11am
- Friday 27 September 3pm to 4pm
- Wednesday 2 October 10am to 11am
- Friday 4 October 3pm to 4pm
