Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week celebrates the third most spoken language in New Zealand.

According to the 2018 Census, 182,721 people of Samoan heritage live in New Zealand and 8,238 people of Samoan heritage reside in Christchurch.

This theme derives from the overarching Language Week Series theme for 2024, 'Sustainability'. This aligns with the UNESCO Decade of Indigenous Languages and the long-term vision in the Pacific Languages Strategy.
