The Cleaner by Paul Cleave

Christchurch author Paul Cleave's book has been made into a tv series. Now we have the audiobook if you want to listen to an edge-of-your-seat, twisted and twisty thriller.

Every man for himself and God against all: a memoir by Werner Herzog

I have been keen to read German filmmaker Werner Herzog's memoir for a while. Now it's out as an audiobook - read by Herzog himself, so I am plumping for that option. Should be dry and amazing!

Saying It Loud: 1966 - the year Black Power challenged the civil rights movement by Mark Whitaker

A sharp and interesting history of SNCC, the Black Panthers, and the leading figure in the Civil Rights movement. JD Jackson reads the book by Mark Whitaker well.

Everything must go: The stories we tell about the end of the world by Dorian Lynskey

This sounds scary, but it is surprisingly good fun too. Dorian pulls together movies, history, religion, and science in service of a story about stories about the end of the world. It runs the gamut from the Book of Revelations to nukes to Melancholia (there are a lot of comets in this book). Aotearoa alert: We feature a bit, as an apocalypse-escaping destination, and also for the dystopian movie classic The Quiet Earth.
