Check our Easter hours and the latest information on libraries - Spreydon is closing for refurbishment, Hornby Library is closing and Matatiki Hornby Centre is opening!

Easter hours

Here are the library opening hours over Easter:

Friday 29 March: All libraries closed
Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March aren't public holidays, so libraries will be open their normal hours except:

Linwood Library at Eastgate will be closed on Easter Sunday
Hornby Library is closed
Spreydon Library is closed

Monday 1 April: Easter Monday - Tūranga is open from 10am to 5pm. All other libraries are closed.

Spreydon Library closing for refurbishment

Spreydon Library is closing for six weeks while Christchurch City Council refurbishes the building.

The library, located at 266 Barrington Street, will be closed from 1pm on Saturday 23 March. The library will re-open at 10am on Monday 6 May.

Hornby Library closing

The Hornby Library on Goulding Avenue will close on Thursday 28 March for the shift to the new Matatiki Hornby Centre. The customer services desk at Goulding Avenue will be open until 5pm Friday 19 April, before also shifting across to Matatiki. The customer services team will continue to offer their full range of services like council payments and dog registrations.

Matatiki Hornby Centre opening

Matatiki Hornby Centre will be officially opened by Mayor Phil Mauger at a formal ceremony starting at 1pm Friday 19 April. The facility will be open to the public from 3pm with the library closing at 6pm. Saturday 20 April will be a day of community activities and celebrations.
