Spinning Your Own Story: WORD Christchurch 2026

What if you had a grumpy maths teacher, in a busy kitchen and a swarm of bees came to visit? Or how about if a crafty librarian in a mountain top cave did a trending TikTok dance?

What could happen? What adventures could these curious characters get up to? Where could the story take you?

Spin-a-Story is on at Tūranga, over the weekend of WORD Christchurch 2026. On Friday afternoon the wheels spun, and the stories formed, writers young and old, getting lost in their imaginations and the fun of story writing. There were stories short and long, spooky and silly, and many with wonderful illustrations.

Here's a taster of a few of our favourites:

"On an ordinary day the curious kiwi rode the tram, sitting on the seat and greeting other passengers."

"Once upon a time there was an adventurous dog that was going on an adventure."

"I arrived at New Brighton Beach at midnight. It was pitch black. Stars winked in the sky."

Come and Spin a Story with us on Hapori | Community, Level 1, Tūranga on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm
