Lambda Literary Awards

Christchurch City Libraries lists literary prize winners and links to catalogue searches, but we may not hold copies of all titles mentioned.

The Lammys are awarded by the Lambda Literary Foundation and celebrate the best lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender books of the year and affirm that LGBTQ stories are part of the literature of the world. A juried award with a rigorous selection process, acknowledgements are made in twenty-five categories. Although the awards are US-based, entries are accepted from any country as long as the work is published in English.

A Transgender category was added in 1996 and a Bisexual category was added in 2006. The awards began in 1988.

Each year's awards celebrate books published in the previous year.

In 2017, Jacqueline Woodson and Jeanette Winterson were honoured for their lifetime achievements.
