Akaroa library to close temporarily from 1pm Saturday 16 November, reopening Monday 16 December

Akaroa library will close for improvements from 1pm Saturday 16 November

Library users in Akaroa are being encouraged to stock up now on their reading material because the township’s library will soon shut for repairs and refurbishment.

The Akaroa Community and School Library will be closed for about four weeks, from 1pm Saturday 16 November, while work is done to modify the library’s layout and improve its energy efficiency.

Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says the improvements are aimed at making the library a more comfortable space for both customers and library staff.

“Because the library is only going to be shut for about four weeks we have made the decision not to set up temporary library facilities in Akaroa. Instead, we are encouraging library members to borrow a month’s worth of items before the library closes.

“While the library is closed, customers will be able to return borrowed items to the Service Centre in Akaroa. They will also still be able to access our full range of digital resources including eBooks, eMagazines, and digital newspapers,’’ Ms Robertson says.

It is expected the Akaroa Community and School Library will reopen to the public on Monday 16 December.

During the library’s closure, the nearest libraries for Akaroa residents will be Little River Library and Te Hāpua:Halswell Centre. Items on hold will be sent to Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre unless specified otherwise.
