We are changing Youth Membership terms and conditions from Monday 8 December 2025.
Currently Christchurch City Libraries Youth Membership applies to young people who are less than 19 years old;
From 8 December, it will apply to young people who are less than 18 years old.
This brings our library membership conditions into line with other New Zealand libraries, and aligns with the guarantor requirements for youth membership. A guarantor (parent or legal guardian) is required for those up to and including 17 years of age. 18-year-olds do not need a guarantor.
Gammack Trust
Some young people have youth membership through the Gammack Trust which subsidises young people from Selwyn, Waimakariri and Hurunui districts to join Christchurch City Libraries. When people in Selwyn, Waimakariri and Hurunui districts turn 18, they will need to update to an out of district adult member (which requires payment of an annual subscription). You can do this by visiting one of our libraries within the next month with your library card or ID.
If you have any questions, please contact us or talk to your local district library for more information.
