Podcast – Voices in opposition to the Legislation (Definitions Woman and Man) Amendment Bill

Christchurch City Libraries blog hosts a series of regular podcasts from specialist human rights radio show Speak up - Kōrerotia. This show is created by Sally Carlton.

Voices in opposition to the Legislation (Definitions Woman and Man) Amendment Bill

The Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill, which passed its first reading in Parliament in May 2026, proposes that "woman" and "man" be defined in New Zealand legislation as "an adult human biological female/male". This special show comprises 20 contributions submitted to Speak Up-Kōrerotia by individuals speaking from places of professional and/or personal concern about this Bill. They encourage us to reflect on why the Bill is being proposed now and what this shows us about global politics in 2026, and set out arguments about sport, the law, science and health, human rights and identity.
