Podcast – Language learning in Aotearoa

Christchurch City Libraries blog hosts a series of regular podcasts from New Zealand specialist human rights radio show Speak up - Kōrerotia. This show is created by Sally Carlton.

Language learning in Aotearoa

Increasingly fewer people are learning a foreign language at primary, secondary or tertiary levels in Aotearoa New Zealand, with consequences for both individual identity and NZ's place in the world. Guests Stephanie Mortimore (Language Circle), Fesaitu Solomone and Lynn Lolokini Pavihi (Centre for Pacific Languages) and Stephen Epstein (Te Herenga Waka Victoria University Wellington) discuss the benefits of language learning and the importance of making language learning a compulsory part of the Curriculum alongside the other subject areas.
