The nearest disabled car park is located at street level, just south of the library, approximately 35 metres away. Access to the library is via a ramp from the street.
Level Access
The closest disabled car park (off-street parking) is approximately 35 metres from the main door of the library foyer. Access to the door is via a ramp from the street. The door into the building is 800mm wide.
The library aims to keep the library door open at all times to make access easier, but may occasionally close it on cold days. The library is unable to keep the foyer door open as the space is shared with the cinema.
Standing and Queueing
Our staff are always roving throughout the library and are more than happy to assist you. Please feel free to approach us directly, or we will come to you. You're also welcome to call out or wave if you need help. There are many seating options available throughout the library, including areas close to our main service desks.
Urgent Toilet Access
There are two toilets located in the building’s foyer, including one that is accessible. Additional public toilets are available approximately 100 metres away on the harbour front, which can be reached by heading down Bruce Terrace.

Assistance dogs are very welcome in the library. If your dog is thirsty, please let us know. We’ll be happy to provide water for them.

There are two disabled car parks outside the library main entrance, about 6 metres away.
Level Access
It is about 6 metres from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library, you will see the main external door as you approach the library from the car park. Once you have come through these automated doors, there is an internal door that you will pass through as you enter the library. Both doors from the car park into the building do allow access for standard-size wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Please note, that sometimes these doors may take a few seconds to open.

We always have staff roving in the library and we are very happy for you to simply approach us or to come to you. Our library space can be quiet at times, but staff are always around ready to help and assist when needed.

We have a disabled car park close to the library. Access to the library is down a hard surfaced sloping path which is about 20 meters and has a supporting handrail beside it.

There are 2 disabled carparks 16 meters from the doors. A wheelchair is available for your use and if you call ahead we are happy to bring out to your vehicle.

Fendalton Library has 2 disabled carparks which are 16 meters from the main library doors. Access to the library is through automatic doors that sit at ground level. These bring you into the library foyer and through another set of automatic doors. These doors accommodate both wheelchairs and large electric mobility scooters. There is a disabled toilet to the right-hand side as you come into the library.

We always have staff roving in the library and we are very happy to assist you if you need any help. We have good seating options around the library. There is a wheelchair which is available for you to borrow during your visit. We are happy to bring the wheelchair out to you if you call ahead of time. We have two trolleys available for use to put your books, DVDs etc. in while looking around the collections.

There are toilets for women and men near the front entrance of the library. There is also a disabled toilet. We have a parents’ room that provides a change table as well as a toddler-sized toilet.

The Library at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre hours and information
Distances
There are three mobility-access parking spaces 45–55 metres from the doors. A wheelchair is available for your use, and if you call ahead, we are happy to bring it out to your vehicle.

Te Hāpua Library has five mobility-access parking spaces, which are 45–55 meters from the main library doors. Access to the library is through automatic doors at ground level, leading into the building foyer and through another set of automatic doors. These doors accommodate both wheelchairs and large electric mobility scooters. An accessible toilet is located on the right-hand side as you enter the building.

We always have staff roving in the library, and we are happy to assist you if you need any help. We offer good seating options throughout the library. A wheelchair is available for you to borrow during your visit, and we are happy to bring it out to you if you call ahead. We also have four trolleys available for use to hold your books, DVDs, and other items while you browse the collections.

The nearest disabled carparking is in the mall carpark and is a significant distance from the entrance to the library. There are many opportunities for you to sit down between the entrance to the mall and the library and if you prefer a wheelchair is available for loan on request to Mall Management
Level Access
Our library is accessible for those who use wheelchairs. There are 14 wheelchair parks directly outside the Eastgate Shopping Centre. Access to the second floor is via a lift. This can be found beside Postie Plus on the ground floor and there are two wheelchairs available from Mall Management on request. The majority of our resources are wheelchair accessible, and our approachable staff are on hand to help you with retrieving items if you want assistance.

Access to the library is either via a ramp immediately in front of the building or by steps on the right side of the entrance. Both have handrail supports for added assistance.

There is no dedicated disabled parking allocated but there is some limited parking space on the roadside as well over the road.

Distances
If staff see you with this icon on your Hāpai Access Card or it appears that you are struggling, they will ask you to come to the front of the queue or direct you to available seating. Staff will offer you access to the four wet wheelchairs (including a tip and tilt wet wheelchair) that are available to use as needed. These are available poolside. There are seats available throughout the facility for you to use.
Level Access
Matatiki has a flat entrance to the facility. Our doors are sensor operated and open automatically. Reception has one lowered desk area to the left. Gates to the pool are automatic. There is a ramp for wheelchair access into all pools, including the spa. Four wet wheelchairs are available to use in the pool, including one tip and tilt wet wheelchair. These are available poolside. There is one accessible toilet near the meeting rooms in the foyer. One accessible toilet is located at the end of the library, which includes a toilet, rail and sink. There is one accessible changing room in the change area, which contains a movable bed, toilet grabrails and a shower with a bench and rails. There is an accessible change room on the far right when entering the pools, which has a height-adjustable bed, hoist, shower, toilet and sink. You must bring your own sling. There is an accessible toilet on the left when entering the pools.

If you have any difficulty with standing or are struggling in the queue, please wave or show your Hāpai Access Card to the staff members, they will ask you to come to the front of the queue or direct you to available seating. Staff will offer you access to one of the wet wheelchairs that are available to use as needed. These are available in the changing room area and poolside.

There is one accessible toilet and multiple standard toilets in the main foyer next to the multipurpose room. There is one accessible changing room with toilets on the way to the pools in the change area, as well as standard toilets. There is one accessible toilet to the left of the entry to the pools and there is an accessible change room on the right with a moveable bed, hoist, toilet and sink.

Guide and companion dogs are welcome in the facility and can wait beside the pool. Speak to a lifeguard if you have any queries or need assistance.
Essential Companions
Your support person has free access to the activity that you are attending. The role of your support person is to support you with communication and any personal care assistance, assist you through the facility and support you to exit the facility in an emergency. They will need to assist you in the pool if required or actively monitor from the poolside.

Our team can offer assistance and support to read signs and information and guide you to the changing area/pool/library. They can also introduce you to the surroundings and key locations such as toilets and entry/exit doors, along with any hazards that may present a risk.

Matatiki Hornby Centre has a LOOP system which can be utilised at the facility on request. Staff will endeavour to communicate clearly with you, if necessary moving to a quieter area. Staff will write down information for you to read if the information is becoming difficult to communicate.

Distances
There is a disabled car park outside the Sumner Medical Centre 50 metres form the Nayland Street entrance. There is another disabled carpark on Nayland Street 60 metres from the Wakefield Avenue entrance.
Level Access
Level access is via the entrance off Nayland Street. There is a loading zone by the Nayland Street entrance where people can be dropped off close to the entrance, but cars cannot park in the loading zone and must be moved to the carparks after drop off. There is general carparking available along Nayland Street. The Wakefield Avenue entrance has steps but there is a lift that can take you from the foyer into the building. Access to the first floor is either the elevator or two flights of stairs.

Our staff are always available to help. You can come and talk to us or call out and we will come to you. Seating is available throughout the library and there are couches, armchairs and seats available in the atrium.

In the atrium there are two unisex toilets and a unisex disabled toilet. In the library there is a toilet at the Nayland Street end by the children’s area, and upstairs there are men’s toilets with 2 stalls and two urinals and women’s toilets with 3 stalls. There is a unisex disabled toilet on the first floor.

Distances
The nearest accessible carparking space is at street level just south of the library, about 60 metres away. There is a ramp from the carpark to the library entrance. There is a drop-off zone that is closer to the entrance but only if you are able to climb steps, otherwise we recommend using the nearest accessible park.
Level Access
It is about 60 metres from the closest disabled carpark to the main door of the library. Access to the automated door is via a ramp up from the street level carpark. A lift gives access to the first floor and the pier. Direct access to the pier and the first floor of the library is available via a ramp from the raised public car park south of the library, a distance of more than 200m. The doors from the pier into the building do allow access for standard size wheelchairs and mobility scooters, however these doors can be very heavy depending on the wind pressure.

The nearest disabled car park is behind the library around 90 meters from the front door. There is a ramp from the footpath to the library entrance.

It is about 90 meters from the closest disabled car park (in the carpark behind the library) to the entrance of the library. Access to the automatic doors is via a ramp or steps from the footpath.

We have staff roving in the library and we are very happy for you to approach us or to come to you. You are welcome to call out or wave to us for help. There are a number of seating options around the library, some close to our main service area. We have trolleys available for you to use while you are in the library. A staff member will happily go with you to the car with you then bring the trolley back.

There is a disabled toilet towards the back of the library next to the men's and women's toilets. The disabled toilet also has baby change facilities.

Assistance dogs are very welcome in the library. We are happy to get your dog a drink of water so let us know if they are thirsty. We host a weekly Reading to Dogs programme. The dogs taking part in these programmes are trained education dogs and are always accompanied by an Animal Management Officer. Pet dogs are not allowed in the library.

The nearest disabled car park is at street level just west of the library, about 45 metres away, in the Redwood Park carpark. Entrance to the carpark is located 100 metres on the left, past the library.

It is about 45 metres from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library. The doors into the building do allow access for standard size wheelchairs and mobility scooters There are no public toilets within the building, however there are public toilets are located beside the library.

It is about 5 metres from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library. The entire building is at street level, with no steps or changes in level. There is a disabled toilet in the foyer of the library.

There is one toilet for men and one for women in the foyer of the building. There is also a disabled toilet in the foyer with a baby-changing table inside.

The nearest disabled car park is at street level just north west of the library, about 25 metres away.
Level Access
It is about 25 metres from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library. There are two disabled parking spaces situated next to the Barrington Park. Access to the automated entrance door is at street level, although there is a variation to the floor level in the foyer. A lift gives access to the first floor. Direct access to the decking at the back of the library is available via a ramp from the Barrington Park side and by a non-automated double door from the library. This door has a step of about 7cm. The door from the park into the building does allow access for standard size wheelchairs and mobility scooters, however these doors can be very heavy depending on the wind pressure.

There are accessible car parks on Gloucester Street (36 metres away), and next to Foundation Cafe Colombo Street (10 metres away) - although the cafe closes at 4pm. Our staff can call you a taxi if needed. A wheelchair is available for you to borrow while visiting if required.
There are:
- Seven ‘P5 Loading Zone’ spaces in Cathedral Square and two ‘P5’ spaces directly outside the library on Gloucester Street.
- The Performing Arts Precinct carpark opposite Tūranga on Gloucester Street has 61 parks, including five accessible parks.
- Metered parking spaces opposite the library on Gloucester Street, and metered on-street parks within a 5 to 10 minute walk to Tūranga.
- Four ‘P120’ mobility parking spaces immediately outside Tūranga. Two of these are on Gloucester Street and two are on Colombo Street. View a map of Christchurch’s approved mobility parks.
Level Access
It is about 36 metres from the closest accessible car park to the Gloucester Street entrance, and about 10 metres from the closest accessible car park to the Colombo Street entrances. We have a ramp at our Gloucester Street entrance and no obstruction to wheelchairs/mobility scooters at our Cathedral Square entrance. There are push button automatic opening doors on both the Gloucester Street and Cathedral Square entrances to provide an easier entry for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Our doorways wide enough to allow access for standard wheelchairs and mobility scooters. All public areas are accessible via our 3 public lifts. Each floor has an accessible toilet, plus there is an accessible toilet on the ground floor near the cafe end. Staff are available to retrieve things from higher levels by request if you are uncomfortable with the height of the building.

Please approach a staff member if you have questions or need assistance. You can call out or wave if you need them to come to you, and there are many seating options available. Our team can often be found near desks or service points but also roam the library floor, they can be identified by the rainbow lanyards they wear. A wheelchair is available by request if needed.

We have toilets on all floors, including 1 accessible toilet per floor plus another accessible toilet near Foundation Cafe on the ground floor.

There are bilingual signage at the lifts and entrances. We run a sensory hour between 7-8pm on Mondays with lower lighting and reduced noise and visual stimuli.

Tūranga has an assisted listening system installed (similar to a hearing loop) that allows customers with hearing difficulty to connect to our PA system via a smartphone.

It is about 38 metres from the closest disabled car park to the main door of the library. Our library is a long building with different seating options throughout. The team are happy to find and bring you what you need from our shelves and assist with your browsing. A wheelchair is available for you to borrow while using the library if you prefer. We are happy to bring the wheelchair out to you if you all ahead. There are also trolleys available for customers to use while they move around the library.
Level Access
From the carpark, there is a level path through a courtyard to a ramp up to the library's automated front doors. The security gates are wide enough to allow standard size wheelchairs and mobility scooters through.

The main toilets are at the rear of the library beside the cafe. This includes an accessible toilet and male and female toilets. There is an additional bathroom at the front of the library that can be accessed on request. Staff will stay in the area to ensure you can leave the restricted area where this toilet is located.
Disability Assist Dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in the library. If your dog is thirsty, please let us know and we would be more than happy to provide a bowl of water. Dogs that are not assistance dogs are not permitted in the library. Please note that the library has underfloor heating.

As Upper Riccarton Library is a shared space with Riccarton High School, it can get noisy while are in the library. If this becomes a problem while you're speaking with a staff member we are happy to move to a quieter space with you.
