Kids ‘Wild About Reading’ Competition
Children and families with children aged 0 to 13 years inclusive were encouraged to share their reading experiences this summer. All kinds of reading are to be celebrated! Pick up a challenge sheet from any Christchurch City Libraries or download a copy.
The emphasis this year was on encouraging shared family experiences – your preschoolers will obviously be having these experiences alongside an adult. Have fun together as you celebrate the joy of reading!
Our Holiday Reading lists are full of reading ideas and highlight the best books of 2017.

WILD about reading in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens
Tick off one of your Christchurch City Libraries’ Summer Reading Challenges by reading outdoors!
Five classic books were hidden in wild places around Christchurch Botanic Gardens:
- The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton in the New Zealand Garden
- The Lorax by Dr Seuss in the Cockayne Memorial Garden
- Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne in the Woodlands
- Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll in the Heritage Rose Garden
- Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter in the Curators Garden
All books are locked in treasure chest in each location. Download this map or pick up a copy in any library or the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre for the secret code to unlock each chest.
Read the book yourself or share with friends or family.
This was a free programme that runs between 3-24 January. Remember to fill in the logbook once you’ve finished to do in the draw to win copies of the book… and tick off another item on your libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge Sheet!
