WORD Christchurch Writers and Readers Festival was an absolute blast.
TheThe highlight for me was a celebration of In Love With These Times - My Life With Flying Nun by Roger Shepherd, at Blue Smoke in the Tannery. It's been a while since I had to queue to get into a gig!
Playing to a packed house, the evening was a mix of nostalgia, pass the mic, performance and hope. While I felt 20 again listening to Graeme Downes play "Two O'clock in the Afternoon" and Jay Clarkson covering the 3Ds, Hollie Fullbrook (Tiny Ruins) wished she had been around in the heydays. I'm glad she wasn't, because she is an excellent flag-bearer for the future of Flying Nun.
