Donna – Staff Pickles

Kia ora. I am the Kaiwhakaraupapa Hōtaka [Editor] of the Digital Library Web Team. I like all shades of books - chunky literary novels (oh hai The Luminaries, IQ84 and The Goldfinch), biographies, comics, and slim tomes about history. Am particularly interested in art, fashion, history, and radioactivity.

This year, I'm trying to keep a record of my life in books Word up - 2018 in books and it will show what I get out of the library, the books that actually got read, second hand or new books bought, etcetera.

Follow Donna in our catalogue.

Here is my selection of the best New Zealand book covers of 2018.

Reading and watching

CoverReading Lily Allen's memoir My thoughts exactly. It's great - honest, interesting, and really quite unputdownable.

My current go-to telly is Project Runway NZ, Dr Who, The Great NZ Bake Off, and going back to the early series of RuPaul's Drag Race. Alas The Good Place is on holiday now until January 2019 ...

Naughty twee is one of my favourite musical genres, so am loving Coco and Clair Clair's new album Posh. I also love The Pom-Poms, and local stars Pickle Darling.

Looking forward to ...

Happy weekend town walks combining Margaret Mahy Playground, Rollickin' Gelato or Vanilla Ices, and Tūranga. But possibly not involving books weighing 7 kilograms.

Spotify's Discover Weekly, 8K online radio, RDU98.5FM and National Radio. Listening - and occasionally watching - John Campbell on Checkpoint RNZ. Mediawatch is a must listen, and often listen to Kim Hill on Saturday and Wallace Chapman on Sunday.
