2020

Disruption to some online services, 17 and 18 June

Upcoming upgrades may affect some online services. The windows during which services are may be interrupted are Wednesday 17 June 2020, 7 – 10pm and Thursday 18 June, 7 - 8am.

The following services may experience interruptions:

Pharos payment gateway
Christchurch City Council cemeteries database
Access to historical issues of the New Zealand Gazette
Some parts of the christchurchcitylibraries.com website

Catalogue and eResource outage – Saturday 25 April 7am to 11am

Access to our catalogue and eResources will be affected by a system upgrade on Anzac Day, Saturday 25 April from 7am. The outage is expected to last four hours. You will be able to browse the catalogue, but you won't be able to login, add titles to your "For Later" shelf, or use eResources such as PressReader and OverDrive.

You will be able to access RBDigital Magazines, Beamafilm, and Kanopy, if you already have an account and app.

You will not be able to join the library online during the outage.

Contact us if you have any queries. Fingertip Library (our call centre) is closed for Anzac Day Saturday 25 April and on Monday 27 April, but will be available from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 26 April.

Upgrade on Tues 18 Feb 11am to 2pm will affect backup catalogue, Te Kēreme, and Papers index

We will be upgrading our eLibrary server on Tuesday 18th February between 11am and 2pm.

The upgrade will affect the following:

The main Christchurch City Library catalogue is unaffected.

Logging in to BiblioCommons catalogue not working - 12 November

There is currently a problem logging into the catalogue. You might get a message like this when you enter your library card number and password/PIN:

This means you won't be able to place holds, or see what items you have borrowed.

You should be able to access eResources with your library card number and password/PIN as normal.

Access to our eResources will be affected by scheduled maintenance tonight Tuesday 1 October from 8.30pm to 10pm. You won't be able to use eResources such as PressReader and OverDrive.

Mobile Print (emailing in your document from home or your own device) and Pharos Payment Gateway (topping up your Pharos account online) will be unavailable.

Catalogue & eResource Outage – Sunday 8 September 12am (midnight) to Monday 9 September 2am

Access to our catalogue and eResources will be affected by scheduled maintenance on Sunday 8 September 12am (midnight) to Monday 9 September 2am. You may be able to browse the catalogue, but you won't be able to login and place holds, or use eResources such as PressReader and OverDrive.

During the maintenance window, you will see a message for all affected sites.

Pharos outage Thursday 29 August 2019 8.15pm to 9.45pm

Pharos is an automated computer queuing system that also provides the means for you to pay for printing, photocopying, booking library computer time and other library services and products from your Pharos account. Mobile Print (emailing in your document from home or your own device) and Pharos Payment Gateway (topping up your Pharos account online) will be unavailable tonight from 8.15pm to approximately 9.45pm.

Emergency maintenance on library catalogue, 10.30pm to midnight on Thursday 29 August

Access to our catalogue and eResources will be affected by emergency maintenance on Thursday 29 August from 10.30pm to 12am midnight. You may not be able to browse the catalogue, login or place holds, or use eResources such as PressReader and OverDrive.

Most public computers are now available (27 February 2019)

A technical issue affected access to public computers in libraries. Most public computers in our libraries are back in action and working as normal, with the following exceptions as at Friday 1 March:

Free public wifi is not affected and is available as usual.

From Wednesday 27 February, we have had issues with our network of public computers. This meant you couldn't use public computers at libraries, and it also affected other services like the laser cutter at Tūranga.

Some disruption to web services, 8pm to midnight, Monday 11 February

Due to a scheduled upgrade there may be some disruption to web services, 8pm to midnight, Monday 11 February. During this period online services may be intermittently disrupted or unavailable. Possible affected services include:

  • library catalogue
  • library website
  • eResources including eBooks
  • My CCL

Catalogue outage - Monday 4 February 2019 1am to 2am

Due to emergency system maintenance by our catalogue vendor the online library catalogue will not be available from 1-2am on Monday 4 February.

There may also be some slowness in loading pages on the library website and events calendar.

Normal service is expected to return after the 1 hour maintenance period.

Planned Maintenance - 9pm to midnight, Sunday 16 September

Access to our BiblioCommons web site and catalogue may be interrupted when the next quarter maintenance window takes place on Sunday September 16, 2018 between the hours of 9pm and midnight, NZST. Users might be unable to login during this time. Additionally, those who are already logged in might get logged out of their accounts. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Catalogue and website outage Monday 13 August 2am

An important change to our BiblioCommons service means there will be a downtime of 45 minutes for our website and catalogue. During times where sites are inaccessible, you will see a maintenance message indicating the service is currently unavailable as part of an emergency update. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for understanding.

Access to our catalogue via Facebook to be discontinued from 1 July 2018

We will not renewing our subscription to the Facebook App that allows you to access our library catalogue via Facebook. Access to the Social Library Library Search will cease from Sunday 1 July.

Sun 10 June 9pm: Maintenance may affect speed of searching our catalogue and website

BiblioCommons’ next quarter maintenance window will take place on Sunday 10 June 2018, between the hours of 9pm and midnight Sunday 10 June 2018. Due to the nature of the changes being made, you may experience slowness while searching our catalogue and website.

However, there will be no downtime associated with this maintenance – sites will be accessible at all times.

World Book outage – Thursday 17 May

An outage is affecting access to all World Book eResources. Their technical staff is working on the issue.

BiblioCommons Confirmation and Notification Emails not being sent – Tuesday 8 May 2018

There is currently an issue with confirmation and notification emails not being sent. This affects all features that currently send out emails. For example - forgot password, email change, new registrations, and form notifications.

RBDigital Magazines outage

RBDigital Magazines will not be available 1-4am on Sunday 29 April. RBDigital has advised the library that due to maintenance their eMagazine service will not be available 1-4am on Sunday 29 April.No other library web services or online resources will be affected by this outage.

Scheduled website outage – 24 April

Some library website content will be affected by a brief outage, 2am 24 April. There will be a brief (5 minute) interruption to some services at around 2am on Tuesday 24 April due to server maintenace. Some website content will be unavailable during this outage though the library catalogue will not be affected.

Due to a system upgrade, access to our catalogue and eResources will be affected on Easter Monday 2 April from 5am to an estimated completion time 12pm.

The RBDigital Magazines site is down for maintenance on Monday, February 26, 2018. The process will begin at 11 p.m. NZDT and take approximately two hours.

System outage Tues 21 November 2017 10pm to midnight

You may experience outages when using our online resources during this time.
A scheduled system outage is taking place between 10pm and midnight on Tuesday 21 November. During this timeframe, there will be two 5 minute outages.This will affect access to Christchurch City Council sites including our library catalogue and website.

Library website and catalogue outage – Sunday 19 Nov 2017 11pm

BiblioCommons is performing system maintenance from Sunday 19 November 11pm to Monday 20 November 3am. We are expecting approximately 2 hours of service downtime for all our BiblioCommons services.

  • Tuesday 17 October: The issue is mostly resolved, but there are still intermittent issues. 
  • Monday 16 October: An unplanned network issue affected access to our BiblioCommons website and catalogue. BiblioCommons is working on fixing this as soon as possible.
