Homelessness
World Homeless Day: Friday 10 October
World Homeless Day is recognised annually on Friday 10 October. This international day serves as a platform to raise awareness and advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent homelessness and support those who are living without housing.
World Homeless Day 2025 Street Art
Artworks and poetry have all been created by people who have experienced homelessness, sharing their stories, voices and creativity. From October 6th, this art will be displayed on the Phantom Billstickers bollard on the corner of Manchester and Lichfield Streets, alongside a poetry display on Mollett Street just off Colombo Street.
Destigmatising Homelessness - Tūranga, Library Plaza
Housing First Ōtautahi are having a gathering on Friday 10 October from 10am to 12noon outside Tūranga in library plaza. This is to promote their service to anyone who might not already be engaged and need support, and customers/public who want to know more about their mahi and the experience of being homeless are also welcome to stop by.
There is huge stigma associated with homelessness. With this art project, we hope to share the voices of those experiencing homelessness and invite you to consider the person behind the artwork.
The World Homeless Day 2025 Street Art project is a collaboration between Housing First Ōtautahi, The White Room Creative Space, Watch This Space, Christchurch City Mission, and Christchurch City Libraries.
