Charles Joseph Bridge arrived at Port Victoria (Lyttelton) on the Randolph in 1850. He came from Liverpool where he had been on the stock exchange. He farmed first at Opawa and then, farmed 'Homebrook' run at Southbridge from 1854-1876. Married Elizabeth Frances Hastings (1827-1923), daughter of Sir Charles Hastings. Died in 1876 aged 54 years.
