No public meeting room / space in the library.
Gaiety Hall can be booked for meetings or events.

Aranui Library

Available during library hours and after hours.

Whānau Room

  • Seats 32
  • Display, data show

  • Room able to be configured to suit. Space can be subdivided.

Meeting room

  • Seats 4
  • Smart board
  • Can be used as a breakout space for the Whānau Room or can be booked separately.

Fendalton Library

Community bookable space

  • Available during library opening hours
  • 30 chairs, 3 tables
  • No outside windows so probably not appropriate for physical activities like yoga
  • Private bookings need a minimum of 10 people.

  • Available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre

Contact 941-8999 or use online bookings and enquiries form. Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre includes several bookable spaces.

Hornby Library

Meeting rooms are in the Community Care part of the Hornby complex and are managed by the Hornby Community Trust, 349-9793. Available during opening hours and after hours.

Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre

Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre has a large hall with a stage that can be hired. There are also two meeting rooms — one large room that can be used with the large hall and a smaller meeting room. Find out more.

New Brighton Library

The following 'meeting spaces' can be booked on a case by case basis. Available during library hours and after hours.

Play and Display Room (PAD)

  • Seats 25
  • Carpeted room, kitchen available, able to be darkened, microphone installed, can be a little noisy at busy times in the library.
  • Kitchen facilities
  • Disabled access
  • No alcohol allowed

Computer Room

  • Seats 8
  • Tables, chairs, whiteboard

No fee is charged unless the kitchen is required. $10 for kitchen during library opening hours. $95 for kitchen and PAD after hours (covers compulsory security guard).

The nearest Council facility is Burwood / Pegasus Community Room (corner Beresford and Union Street, New Brighton). Enquiries and bookings are handled at the Shirley Service Centre, 941-8999.

Priority given to Community Board meetings.

Parklands Library

No meeting room, but small groups can book a table in the Ditto café area provided they are purchasing café food/beverages (max 12 people) or elsewhere in the library (max 6 people). TV can be used for projecting in library space.

Shirley Library

The Young Adult area can be booked by small groups (about 20 people maximum) before 3pm and not during school holidays. It has a pull-down screen but no other technology. It can be screened off from the rest of the library but isn't sound-proof. No other public meeting rooms are available in either the Library or the Service Centre.

South Library and South Learning Centre

Learning Centre end of the building: Available for bookings Monday to Friday 9am to 9.30pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Sydenham Room

  • Datashow projector, whiteboard, and sound system that connects with customer’s laptop.

Computer Lab

  • Seats 35
  • Networked computer suite of 31 computers, an inbuilt data projector, and printer/scanner/photocopier

Upper Riccarton Library

Community Meeting Room (adjacent to main entrance - can be accessed after hours)

  • Seats 35-40
  • Wifi
  • Datashow projector installed, electronic whiteboard, tables and chairs available
  • No kitchen facilities, however a water cooler is available.

Learning Centre rooms

  • Learning Centre 1 (Computer Lab) is a networked computer suite of 31 computers with an inbuilt data projector and printer/scanner/photocopier
  • Learning Centres 2 and 3: classrooms with data projectors. Can be booked singularly or together (partition can be opened)
  • Available for programmes between 4pm and 9pm on weekdays and between 10am and 4pm in the weekend. Possibly available during the day during the school holidays.
