The 2022 theme for Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta - Rotuman Language Week was Vetḁkia ‘os Fäega ma Ag fak hanua - Sustaining our Language and Culture.

To support the umbrella Pacific Language Weeks theme of Sustainability, the Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta theme was chosen to build on from last year’s focus on the Four Pillars of Wellbeing.

According to the 2018 Census, 981 people of Rotuman heritage live in New Zealand.

Rotuman Language Week - Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta display at Tūranga

Rotuman Language Week display put together by Pasifika librarians. Featured is a layer of Rotuman mats called a Päega, which is a seat made for special guests. The finest mat, the apei, is placed on the top.
When used as a bed, this is called a Mosega.
