Burney Collection
17th and 18th Century Burney Newspapers Collection
Before this collection was digitised the British Library’s collection of the newspapers, pamphlets, and books gathered by Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817) were only available in microfilm. Now this information is available to students, historians, genealogists and all those with a streak of curiosity about our past. Special attention has been paid to include newspapers that lead particular political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism, and Home Rule. The penny papers aimed at the working and clerical classes are also present in the collection.
