Ni sa bula kece sara. Macawa ni Vosa VakaViti - Fijian Language Week is on from Sunday 6 to Saturday 12 October 2024.
Ni sa bula vinaka! Fiji Language Week Macawa Ni Vosa Vakaviti celebrates the culture and language of the 19,722 people of Fijian heritage who live in New Zealand. According to the 2018 Census, 1,191 people of Fijian heritage reside in Christchurch.
In 2024, the theme is:
Vakamareqeta na Vosa Vakaviti
Nurture and sustain the Fijian language.
This theme derives from the overarching Language Week Series theme for 2024, 'Sustainability'. This aligns with the UNESCO Decade of Indigenous Languages and the long-term vision in the Pacific Languages Strategy.
