What we know at this stage
- It is released to coincide with the play which begins 30th July at Palace Theatre London (Preview performances in late May).Release date is 31st July.
- There is a countdown to the play
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one play presented in two parts, which are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings. The book will include both parts together.
- There will be two editions (it seems both will include parts 1 & 2). From Little Brown publisher’s website:The Special Rehearsal Edition of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script book will comprise the version of the play script early in the production’s preview period, several weeks prior to the opening performances. The preview process allows the creative team to rehearse changes and/or to explore specific scenes further, in front of a live audience, before the official opening performances on Saturday 30th July. As such the script is subject to change after the Special Rehearsal Edition is published to be replaced by the Definitive Collector’s Edition at a later date. More details about the Definitive Collector’s Edition will be announced in due course.
- The play is suggested as being suitable for 10 years plus to attend.
- It is described as an official script book. We are not sure what this format will end up being; play/non-fiction or fiction.
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not written by J K Rowling rather it is based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and the play director John Tiffany. It is a new play written by Jack Thorne. Read more on the Pottermore website.
- The library has ordered 28 copies but will order more if demand requires.
- There is a record on our system so you can place a hold.
- We will also be ordering the Definitive edition once available.
- The eBook is being released at the same time and this will be available from OverDrive so we will be ordering this as well.
What we don't know at this stage
- We are not sure what age this will end up being suitable for. Publishing information is rather vague, not committing to it being Children’s, Young Adult or Adult but it does seem to have a lean towards being for older readers.
- Not sure how this will be formatted. i.e. whether it will be a play and therefore non-fiction or whether it will actually be fiction.
- No details as yet on the availability of the Definitive edition. I have also not seen any indications on what this format will be, if it will still remain as a ‘Srcipt book’.
- We may not know any more than this until the books actually turn up and are catalogued.
