Some of our libraries are trialling a service where you can click and collect library items. You can fill out a form to request 5 books.

Ready Reads – our new click and collect service

If you can’t, or don’t want to spend time in a library you can still get library books with our new “Ready Reads” service.
On Monday 6 December we start a trial of this new service in four libraries: Tūranga, New Brighton, Upper Riccarton and Redwood.

Here’s how it works:

Ordering Your Items

Please complete the online form. You can choose from Adult, Young Adult or Childrens’ books. Just tell us the kind of books you like or your favourite authors. If you don’t have access to the website, you can place your order by phoning us on 03-941-7923.

Our librarians will choose 5 books for you and phone or email when they are ready for you to collect.

Please note that you can’t request specific titles on the form due to availability at your pick-up library, but you can still place holds in the usual way and collect at the same time as your Ready Reads.

Collecting Your Items

One of our team will contact you to arrange a suitable time and method for you to pick up your items (please be aware that collection methods may not be the same at all libraries).

When you arrive, give your library card to a team member, who will check out your books and hand them to you at the door.

Renewing and Returning Your Items

You can renew items either on our website or by calling us on 03-941-7923.

Please return items through the after-hours return slot at any library (not necessarily the one you borrowed from).

FAQ

  • Not at the moment. During the trial period, this service will only be available from Tūranga, New Brighton, Upper Riccarton and Redwood libraries. It may later be extended to more locations.
  • Adult DVDs and audiobooks are not available as Ready Reads, but you can still access our eAudiobooks and online streaming services. If you have particular needs, you may be eligible for our Agreed Support service to housebound customers which includes DVDs and audiobooks. Please contact us for more details.

  • Yes. Please contact FingerTip Library on 03-941-7923 to find out how to pay your holds charges. If you would like to add money to your account you can do so via the Pharos Payment Gateway or by phoning the library.

  • Unfortunately you can’t choose specific books as part of the Ready Reads service. You can place holds on specific titles in the catalogue or by calling our Fingertip Library. You can collect these at the same time as your Ready Reads selections. Please contact FingerTip Library on 03-941-7923 to find out how to pay the amount due for holds.

  • No, we cannot reselect at collection, but you can reorder and give us more information to help us choose better next time.

  • Yes, as long as they have your library card with them when they collect.

  • Please contact your pick-up library to arrange a new time.

  • No, the Ready Reads service is free. However, if you are picking up holds at the same time, please contact FingerTip Library on 03-941-7923 to find out how to pay the amount due for the holds.

  • We will do our best to have every order ready to collect within 48 hours of receiving the form. This may change depending on demand.

  • No. You need to complete your membership before taking out books, but you can still use all our online services.
