I have a friend who says that she hasn't a creative bone in her body. Secretly I doubt that because I simply can't imagine being uncreative. I, on the other hand, have tried making so many different things (with varied success I'll admit) that its actually difficult to remember them all:
- sewing (contemporary, furnishings and 'period costume')
- knitting (two jerseys - never really took off)
- naal-binding (didn't get first the past project... yet)
- embroidery (ahh my first craft) & beading
- calligraphy and illumination (those fancy medieval style letters)
- leather work, including shoe making (not as hard as you might expect)
- weaving including tapestry, card/tablet and plain cloth
- spinning (of course) & natural dyeing
- armour making (yes armour making)
- brewing
- bread making
- candle making
- hat making (millinery)
The up-side of all this is that is that I am never ever bored. I always have truckloads of things to do, projects on the go and many many more projects in the wings. As well as enormous stashes of all sorts of tools & materials there's a substantial library of books but the great thing is that you don't actually have to buy hundreds of books if you're a bit of a craft-dilettante like me because the library has books on pretty much all the main craft-groups - OK maybe not armouring 🙂
So, if you think that you might be creative, but want to try something a bit different, remember that almost anything can be made by hand with the right information, tools and materials.
Awesome things I haven't tried yet: distilling essential oils, glass-blowing, blade-smithing, furniture making.
